Situated within the village of Dunstan, a short walk from the seaside fishing village of Craster (famous for its kippers!) and the dramatic coastline. Beech Cottage provides the perfect base from which you can start to explore the region, its coast and its majestic castles.

Picture - Craster Harbour Aerial PhotoLess than 2 miles from Craster is the dramatic ruin of Dunstanburgh Castle (pictured at the top of this website.) Ruined in the War of Roses in the 15th century the proud castle still stands tall on the edge of the coast over looking the North Sea. The castle can only be reached by foot which just adds to its dramatic atmosphere and romantic presence.

Other castles dotted around the area include Warkworth Castle, Bamburgh Castle, Chillingham Castle and the famous Alnwick Castle (which stars as The Hogwarts Academy in the Harry Potter movies!)

The ancient market town of Alnwick is the closest town to Craster and is well worth a visit. While in Alnwick, visits to the Castle and the recently opened Alnwick Gardens are an absolute must! The pictureques gardens have some spectacular features to offer, these include: The deadly Poison Garden, which houses some of the worlds most lethal plants (viewing them is perfectly safe, of course) and also Europes largest tree house! Alnwick is just one of the many towns and villages which bare testament to Northumberland's rich and varied history.

Built around 117 AD, it stretches 76 miles through the southern most part of the Northumberland National Park - from the river Tyne in Newcastle to the coast at Bowness in Cumbria, It once marked the northern most boundary of the Roman empire.

If you yearn for the bright lights or would like to indulge yourself in some good old retail therapy, then heading south is the best idea. Not only do you have the cosmopolitan city of Newcastle upon Tyne - with shops, bars, restaurants, theatres and cinemas, but there's also Europes largest indoor shopping complex, The Metro Centre.

Where ever you go or what ever you do in Northumberland, its bound to be a memorable occasion.
